Union Park Des Moines Ia – I’ve wanted to go to Union Park, home of the Carousel Legacy, all summer, but never got around to it. We’ll definitely be back once the carousel opens, but we took pictures of what was going on and tried out the rocket slide! This park is located to the right of Birdland, which we also visited that day.

You could barely see the Capitol through the trees, but there were plenty of benches and gazebos scattered about.

There was a circular disc in this lovely outdoor area – I think the kids here play a lot of ball sports when the weather is warmer.
I think I’ve seen two such shelters: one near the carousel and one further away.
It’s a carousel, all closed. I can’t wait to go back and sit here, it’s only open during the day, it’s historically nap time, but my two year old is sleepy so sitting on the carousel is the best option.
Apart from the carousel, this park is famous for its “rocket slide”. I didn’t know what to expect, to be honest we didn’t get off, but it’s a beast!

I was amazed at how steep the hillside was, no steps at all, I wouldn’t want to be here on a free day with the big kids running around. Since we were the only people there, we were curious to explore it.
On the other side of the rocket slide there is a shelter, two parks and a children’s pool.
We hung onto the baby’s side, he was so small and cute. None of the playgrounds were anything special, but they were in good shape and each had a few options. We will definitely be back and sharing when we go in the summer!
