I am from a small country called Azerbaijan, former USSR, Soviet Union. I came in 1998 with my four-year-old son. I wanted to move to a new country and build our own future, and we had no chance – it was the collapse of the post-Soviet Union, and I thought that this would be a good opportunity for us to come. . to Canada. Before moving to Canada, I earned a master’s degree in English Linguistics. But of course it’s nothing, it’s not a big deal in Canada.

Most people here speak English. So I went to Carleton University first and got my BA. law and then I went to the University of Ottawa and got my law degree. I found my Common Law – it was a lot of learning, but it paid off in the end.
The Advantage Of Becoming A Lawyer In Canada
After graduation, I spent my time writing articles. A few months later I went myself. I started in real estate and worked out of a small office in Russell, Ontario. Because there are many farmers in Russell, there was an incident where a woman was mauled by a horse and suffered a brain injury. Therefore, I was not a lawyer in that case, I was helping. How was the company? I was able to follow the case from start to finish and developed a keen interest in personal injury law at the time.
We do not represent individuals, insurance companies, or the general public who have been injured in traffic accidents, road accidents and falls, or where they have been injured due to medical negligence and similar situations. I started my company in 2010 after graduating from law school. It was a small office for me and my paralegal.
You have been an entrepreneur for ten years – twelve years now, what is the biggest challenge in starting your own business?
Being a lawyer and running a law firm are two different things. You have to understand the business side of it, you have to understand the marketing side of it and the accounting side of it. And they are human resources. It’s all about people, really. it is completely different. My father had a chocolate factory – basically he imported chocolate from Europe and he ran a big chocolate factory, I didn’t get involved in his business, but I watched what he did and how he talked.

He spent hours on the phone, knowing how to bring in customers and where to put the chocolate. So it was a really good experience for me because it taught me how to run a business and that it’s going to be your life, 24/7. Being a lawyer is not a 9-5 job. this is work. It’s a lifetime job and you have to commit to it wholeheartedly.
What would you like to see in your preview or long-term plan at your law firm?
I think we will add good, talented, quality friends and people, and I think we will continue to grow. This is the goal. This is the plan.
What motivates you to keep growing and moving on to new things and keep growing within yourself?

What can I tell you, who else can I tell. I have a great advisor, his name is Craig Brown, and he’s one of the best lawyers in Canada, and he’s recommended every year. So, he has been doing it for forty years and still loves it. We talk weekly, sometimes daily, about files, and he has a zest for life and a desire to excel. It makes us reinvent and improve what we do, improve our skills, improve our tools, and more. You can upgrade forever. Forever. You can always and always learn. I’d say that’s a good thing because I don’t like how flat it is.
And if you have a ten-year-old and growing business, what advice would you give to yourself now, looking at the woman ten years ago and the last two roots?
I think you shouldn’t be afraid to be different. Obviously, I’m here in a new country, I have words, I’m an immigrant, and I’m different from what you usually see as a personal injury lawyer who grew up here. People should not be afraid to be different, have a different style, have a different way of communication and I think you should continue. And if you have faith, stay with him and follow him. And let me tell you that many people tell me not to go to the law school, saying, “It’s expensive, it’s difficult.” Things don’t come from women.” I didn’t listen to them because I knew my truth and believed in myself.
So you are a grandmother, a mother, a business owner and a lawyer. So many things have to be balanced. What do you do for yourself and what do you do in your spare time?
Why You Shouldn’t Talk To An Insurance Adjuster Without An Injury Lawyer
I don’t like it when someone says “I don’t have time”. Everyone has time. Everything. It’s a matter of finding control from time to time and figuring out what’s really important to you. When you know what it is, you will find time. Every day I come home and have dinner with my husband of 24 years. That’s why we have fun and spend time doing our favorite things. My son’s wife gave birth to a baby girl named Rai, and I got to see her, and I got to spend time with her every week.
I think the biggest difference is that here we speak many languages and understand different cultures. Personal injury is not a business process. This is not a business. It’s personal. Everything we do for these people is personal. It’s losing a job, losing a family, you know, relatives dying in a car accident. Everything is personal. You can’t treat these people like a business.
I have assembled a group that knows Greek, Russian, all Arabic languages, Mandarin and French. We speak these languages because you understand the culture through that language. Especially when you’re on a seven-hour trial. We ask customers questions about their past, present and future, you need to understand who they are and how they see the world and how they do it through the lens of their culture, where they come from. That’s why when customers contact me, I say, “We understand you.” I understand. I understand you. I understand your culture. I understand what you mean.’ I think that’s why we are different.
We’re going to a face-to-face meeting in Toronto and it’s new because we can do these face-to-face meetings. Ontario Trial Lawyers Association in May. They will have their first personal meeting on May 13. Also, as a team, we deal with a lot of demand. We are defending the interests of 24 Chinese citizens who were involved in a bus accident. It’s challenging, fun and exciting. We await the next steps in this legal process.
