Motorcycle Accident New Port Richey – NEW PORT RICHEY – A motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after colliding with a car at Decubellis Road and Tanglewood Drive.

The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. after Joshua Fournier of New Port Richey passed a car driving a Yamaha motorcycle “at a high rate of speed,” according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

As Fournieri returned to the westbound lane on Decubellis, he encountered an eastbound car that began to turn left onto Tanglewood Drive.

Fournier hit the brakes. The motorcycle turned sideways and slid into the right side of a Hyundai Sonata driven by Gaines Blakenshi, 79, of New Port Richey.

The impact caused the car to spin clockwise and hit a stop sign at the northwest corner of the intersection. Parts of the motorcycle also damaged an eastbound Stanley Steamer pickup truck behind the Hyundai. Fournier was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 20 years old.

Fornieri’s Facebook profile shows that he graduated from River Ridge High School in 2011 and attended Pasco-Hernando Community College.

A 100m skating rink marked Decubellis Road to the accident site. For another 30 meters, the field of debris strewn along the road could only be identified as a motorcycle by its largest parts: two wheels, a chassis, a dented engine and a single rear-view mirror at the end of the road.

FHP vehicles were stopped near the scene as soldiers worked until the afternoon. The red Hyundai was still stopped at the corner of the intersection, with its rear bumper hanging off and a gap in the side. The stop sign was sticking out behind the rear wheel on the driver’s side.

Blackenshey was not injured in the crash, FHP said. Troopers were still investigating whether anyone would be cited.

Traffic was stopped and diverted for several hours Wednesday while first responders placed a white sheet over Fournieri’s body. A few meters away, two white sneakers, one on the sidewalk and one on the bike path, were still standing.

Motorcyclist Killed In U.s. 19 Collision

PORT RICHEY – B.J. Walters, 42, was home Saturday night when he heard screaming. He said he fled his home in the Port Richey area, where he saw a child lying on the ground and cars slowed down but did not stop.

Although the boy was a neighbor, Walters said he had never seen him before. However, he said he performed CPR until a trauma nurse took over.

On Sunday he made the cross, brought a teddy bear and went to light the candles in the same clothes he ran out in on Saturday.

Family members hugged Walter through tears and thanked him for coming to his aid. Dozens of people gathered Sunday for a vigil for a 7-year-old boy who died Saturday night after being hit by a motorcyclist who fled the scene.

Shawn Elliot Wyrich, 19, of Port Richey, arrived at the Port Richey Police Department on Sunday and surrendered to Florida Highway Patrol officers after admitting his involvement, authorities said. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failing to approve a motorcycle. Authorities found the motorcycle at a residence on Fox Hollow Drive, not far from the scene.

The accident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the Jasmine Estates neighborhood of Port Richey, near the intersection of Regency Park Boulevard and King Arthur Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Agency spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins confirmed Sunday that the boy had gone for a walk that night with his mother and his siblings to look at the area’s Christmas lights. The family was trying to cross westbound on Regency Park Boulevard at the King Arthur Boulevard intersection, Gaskins said.

But when the family stopped on the highway, Weirich was traveling north on his motorcycle at “high speed,” Gaskins said. His orange and black Kawasaki Ninja 400 collided with a 7-year-old boy in the middle of Regency Park Boulevard. Police then said Weirich got back on his motorcycle and fled the scene.

The agency did not release the boy’s name because of the department’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution designed to protect crime victims but that denies public information that has been long available under state public records laws.

Plastic fragments that fell from Wyrich’s motorcycle during the crash helped officers identify the make and model of the motorcycle involved, the agency said.

On Sunday night, nearby residents and others who learned of the boy’s death placed crosses, flowers and stuffed animals at the crash site.
