Church In Des Moines Iowa – St. Anthony’s Catholic Church is a Catholic parish church in the Diocese of Des Moines south of Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It is included in the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

The first Italian immigrants arrived in Des Moines in the 1870s, with most arriving between 1880 and 1915.

They followed the tram tracks to the area south of the Raccoon River. Bishop Chris Cosgrove of Daveport appointed the Reverend Francis Leonard to found the parish of St. Ante in 1898, but there were difficulties and the project ended. In 1906, Cosgrove turned it over to Victor Romanelli, the founder of a parish south of Des Moines. Romanelli is originally from Naples and has been a parishioner in New York and New Jersey.
