Pack the family and a bottle of bug spray and enjoy a movie under the stars at Des Moines: Drive-In Movies on Vale Drive in the Des Moines area.
Where To See Discounted Kids Movies This Summer In Des Moines
The Valle Drive In is an old theater with two functions, a concession stand, and is typically open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Due to damage from last year’s hurricane, the entrance has not set a 2022 opening date. The doors open at 6.30pm and the main feature starts in the evening. General admission (ages 12 and up) $8.00; Admission for children (ages 5-11) $5.00; Free entry (children under 4). Visit their website for more information.
Movies will be shown at the south end of the Valley West Mall parking lot every Thursday through Sunday from June through October 2022. Two films are shown each evening along with a family-friendly film shown earlier. There is also a children’s play area and food and beverage vendors, including a bar for 21 and older. Movies Under the Stars takes place in June and July at the Bandshell in Wagner Park (410 W 1st Street, Ankeny). Movies start in the evening. The films are free and open to the public; Bring chairs and blankets to sit on.
Relax and watch your favorite summer (and fall) movies on the back patio of Lighthouse Coffee House and Uptown Garage Brewing in Uptown Ankeny. Free movies start at sunset every Saturday until the end of October.
Over 18 Years In The Making: ‘lost Cinemas Of Greater Des Moines’ To Premiere At The Varsity
Clive Parks and Recreation hosts a series of Sunday family movie nights at various Clive parks. Bring the family for a movie night under the stars. The film is broadcast on a high-definition digital LED screen. Be sure to bring a spray, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the outdoors.
Free Flicks is a summer outdoor movie series on Friday nights in the Des Moines area. Movies are shown on a 25-foot moving screen and begin after sunset around 9:00 p.m. Admission is free, blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Please bring Bring your own snacks, as concessions are not provided. Movies are not shot in the rain. Give your family unforgettable memories on summer Friday nights when you watch free family movies under the stars at Memorial Park Amphitheater. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. Food trucks are open from 18:00 to 21:00. Be sure to check the start times for each movie as they change every month.
Restored Varsity Cinema Near Drake Campus Reopened In December
Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and bring your friends and family to enjoy one of Urbandale’s free outdoor movies and fun under the stars. Movies are shown at different locations every month and start at sunset. Parking lots will open one hour before the event and food trucks will be on site.
Annual August 26: Guardians of the Galaxy – Big Shelter at Walnut Creek Regional Park (4100 Walnut Creek Park Road, Urbandale)
This free event is a great way to make memories with family and friends under the stars of Hollywood’s biggest hits in Waukee Central Park. Don’t forget to bring your own chairs and blankets. The show starts at 8:45 tonight.
Join West Des Moines Parks and Rec for an Outdoor Movie Series Fridays in June and July. Start an hour before the movie starts, enjoy event-related activities and stop to eat from the food truck. Movies start at sunset.
Des Moines Concert Featuring Popular Movie Music
Movies in the Park will return until 2022. The movies are free and are shown in the evenings at Colby Park. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the event! If an event is canceled or moved due to weather, a decision will be made on the day of the event at 2:00 p.m. and announced on the city’s Facebook page.

This offer includes any movie, show time and format, whether 3D or IMAX.
This is the second year that the cinemas are hosting the one-day event. According to the Cinema Foundation, last year’s National Opening Day movie drew an estimated 8.1 million viewers across the United States. More than 3,000 theaters participated, totaling $23.8 million.
The event is a way to encourage moviegoers to return to the cinema after the pandemic. At least eight theaters in the Des Moines metro are participating — some of which are offering some extra bonus deals to sweeten the deal.
